Trying to get back to it

I'm going to be honest, I've done very poorly these past couple of months. I've been eating badly and not working out at all. I've actually stayed pretty stable, but I feel like garbage. I finally bought more groceries after the hurricane, and I've been doing an ok job the past couple of days at eating at home. Let's hope I can keep it up.

vacation week

This week I'm going on vacation, and I know there is no way I can eat healthy or do much exercising. I have been off the wagon for a while now, but I plan on getting back to eating healthy and exercising afterward. Don't lose faith in me, I'll be back on track soon enough!

Running Trail is Trashed

The hurricane wasn't so nice to my running trail. There are several VERY large trees that fell down right on top of the trail. Needless to say, I won't be running on that any time soon. That is really depressing, because I liked that trail a lot. I guess I'll have to suck it up and find somewhere else to run.

Ok, so maybe eating at a buffet for lunch wasn't such a good start for my first day, but at least I'm being honest about it in my nutrition log. I tried to approximate it as best I could. It wasn't all bad, since I had lots of veggies, but it probably wasn't the best thing I could have done for lunch.

Today is the day

Between my friend's wedding, all the hanging out we did beforehand, the hurricane, and my trip home, I've really messed up my rhythm here. I'm back to eating badly because I have no food in my fridge (had to toss it all because the power went out for over a week). I'm going to get back to tracking my meals and working out starting today.

Aftermath

I'm finally back in Houston, and this city is pretty messed up right now. I have been way off the wagon as far as dieting and exercise go, but I'm ready to get back to it. I have a feeling my running trail is pretty wrecked right now. I'll have to check it out soon.

Hurricane

Hurricane Ike pretty much ruined my plans for working out or eating healthy for the past week. Going without power or clean drinking water (other than from bottles) makes it difficult to be picky about what I eat. I'm home for the weekend now, so I will have to continue my workouts and eating plan once life gets back to normal.

Time off

I've spent way too much time off from running now, and I really need to get back on track. I keep making excuses for not hitting the track...I wish I could get my motivation back. I'm down a couple of pounds, but I don't feel as great as I did a couple weeks ago. My diet has been so-so, but not completely awful. I'm going to ease myself back on it so I don't have the urge to binge anymore. Also, doing some grocery shopping will help as well. My fridge is so empty!

Bad weigh in

The other day I wrote about an unofficial weigh in where I had lost about 5lbs from last week. This morning I had an official weigh in at my gym and realized that something must have been wrong with the scale I used, or I just read the scale incorrectly. Now I'm depressed because I'm up 2lbs, not down 5 :(

push ups

Today I attempted to do some push ups. I used to be able to do a few hundred in a day, but now I can't even do 1 full push up. This is partly due to my weight, and partly because I have dislocated my shoulder so many times and don't have much upper body strength now. It was pretty grueling trying to even do the first half of a push up, and even more tiring to do push ups on my knees. I am about to set a goal of being able to do 50 consecutive push ups. That would be great, but I guess I should stick with trying to do just 1 full push up.

Running shoes

I bought some new running shoes today. I realized the other shoes I bought were made for people with high arches, whereas I have no arch whatsoever. I went to a local specialty shop called "On the run" that helps you pick out the best shoes to fit the way you walk. Before, I noticed that when I ran, my right foot pointed outwards. Now with these new "Motion Control" shoes, both of my feet point forwards when I walk. I still need to go and try them out, but I have a feeling they will be a lot better than what I had before.

Day off

Yesterday I took the first day off from my diet in about 1 1/2 weeks. I wasn't really all that satisfied with eating unhealthy food, which is a good sign that I'll be able to maintain this healthy diet long term. Today I had some sushi, so I'm not really sure how to enter that into the system. I will get back on track with my nutrition tracking tomorrow.

Shopping Day

Today I bought another load of healthy food from the grocery store. It feels really good to have all that healthy food here, and it really encourages me to think of just how in shape I will be in a few more months. I have such a long way to go, but as long as I can keep this up, I'll hit my goal in no time! I lost 9 freakin' pounds last week! I doubt I'll be able to do that again, but heck, I'm still on track to hit my goal way before I move back home to GA.

Week in Review

This past week I hit my first milestone of 280lbs. I still have a long way to go, but it's nice to see the weight dropping off so quickly. I hope I don't plateau any time soon. I also ran my first mile without any walking breaks this Thursday. I did it once with my friend a couple of weeks ago, but our pace was so slow I didn't really want to count that. I have nice new running shoes that I like, and some more work out clothes as well. The only problem is the case that holds my ipod ripped, so I won't be able to listen to music while I run anymore...that is until I buy my nano. I decided that when I hit 260lbs I will buy myself a nano and the ipod+nike adapter, but I may have to break down and buy it sooner than that. Running without music gets pretty tough. Overall it's been a very good week for me, now I just need to keep this pace up, and eventually increase it even further!

Meal Planner

I upgraded my account to pro today, and I really love this meal planner! I think I'm going to easily be able to hit my calorie goals with this thing. The only problem is the initial set up. It is taking me a long time to get all of my data entered for the first time, but I think that once I get it all planned out, it will be easier in the future.

Another good run

This morning I got up at 5am, and did a 3 mile run/walk before work! I felt pretty good once I got here, but I'm definitely starting to feel it. I took some ibuprofen, and now I'm feeling a lot less sore. I may take tonight off from running and buy some nicer running shoes. I bought mine a year ago, and they're starting to get a little ragged, plus I don't think they're running shoes anyway.

Good work on the 4 miles today! That's awesome. I was having a problem meeting my calories that gyminee said I should be taking in. I have a friend who is a registered dietician - she told me I should be taking probably between 2,000 and 2,500 a day (way less than gyminee said) and that I had to eat breakfast. She really stressed the breakfast part.

Great Run, Good Weight Loss

After work tonight, I ran 2 miles, and walked another 2! I feel really good/exhausted. Also, when I weighed in, I was surprised to find that I'm down another 3 pounds! I haven't had a good weigh in for a week or so because of the musical, so it was pretty nice to be down so low. I've been doing pretty well diet wise, except that I can't seem to eat enough calories in a day...weird huh? I even dropped my recommended caloric intake from what Gyminee suggested, and I STILL can't hit my target calories. Heck, today I burned more calories than I actually ate! I need to be careful so I don't hurt myself...

Motivation

So today I got up and finally felt a drive to lose weight. I've been wanting to lose weight for a while now and I've been working on it, as you all can see...but I haven't really had that drive or motivation to do so. Yesterday I took my second skydive and really enjoyed it once again. I spoke with the instructors about getting my A license, which is when the source of my motivation came about: I'm too heavy to get my license. Apparently I have to be below 250lbs in order to use the equipment they have on hand...so I won't be able to take the classes until I'm below 250lbs. Before I just wanted to lose weight and arbitrarily picked 240 lbs as my goal. Now I have a number I have to hit before I can participate in a sport I'm really interested in. I want to lose the weight for myself, and to be healthy of course, but now I have a specific reason to drop the weight, which I think will help me achieve my goal.

muscial

I volunteered to play trumpet in a musical, so I have had absolutely no time to work out here lately. I get off of work at 6, then have to be at rehearsal at 6:30 until who knows when...last night I didn't get home until 11:30! I guess I'll have to catch up on my work outs next week :(

giddie up

Glad to see you're back at it. Get your diet figured out and you'll watch those pounds fall off! I've never been much for running. I've tried it a couple times since I started this whole lifestyle change. Once I ran a mile at 5mph without stopping but at the end I felt like I was going to die and I was sweating profusely. When I was in college I would run a mile at 6mph before every workout (3 times a week), since then I have sustained a bad leg injury that (at least in my head) keeps me from doing that. But stick with it. If you do it everytime, you're going to notice a huge difference within a month.

back in the saddle

I got back on the track today, and it actually felt pretty good. I ran with a buddy, we did a 2 mile jog, with a little bit of walking. I'm also down another pound despite being lazy all last week. Oh well, that's in the past, time to keep on going!

Run

I had a really good run last night. I did 3 1/2 miles, and ran 1 1/2 miles of it. I'm slowly trying to increase my distance, and increase the distance that I run without a break. Last night I made it 3/4 of a mile without stopping. Now I just need to work back up to where I was 6 years ago!

Heart Rate

My heart rate seems to be a lot lower than it used to be when I run. I feel a lot better than before, and I am completed the 3 miles track in under 45 minutes again (walking and running). Now I need to start running a full mile in a row.

Feeling good

Today I did one of the toughest work outs I've done so far. I lifted weights for about 20 minutes, then spent 50 minutes running out in the Texas heat. I also ate a bunch of sushi at the Chinese buffet... so I guess I needed a good work out. Once I get this eating healthy thing down I should be alright.

Sore

I got up this morning and I'm feeling pretty sore right now. It's not a terrible, overwhelming soreness, but I can definitely feel it. I actually enjoy being sore, it makes me feel like I accomplished something...unless of course I'm so sore I can't move. Luckily I'm not at that point.
