Back, baby!

Well, I finally finished the huge writing project that had me holed up for 2 weeks and I'm back on my feet. Started working out again right where I left off. Feels great!

Re: 100 Pushups

Yes, exactly. It's a 3-day-a-week workout program.

Created about 1 month ago by JuryDuty

Regarding the push-up program

In the text it says: "every day" the program is made with Week 1 day 1, Week 1 day 2, Week 1 day 3 and then over to week 2. Does this mean only 3 days a week?

Glad to hear you're okay!

I was gone for a while, came "back to life" today and discovered you were missing! I was going to ask if you're okay, but I see here you are fine and working hard. You make me feel guilty, I haven't worked on my book in too long! Glad to see you're okay!

Hey dl--I'm here, but have a HUGE project due this next week which has me essentially going AWOL for about 10 days here. I'm a freelance writer, so this happens once in a while, putting my life on hold. :P But I'm not going anywhere!

Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel Whey...anyone want it?

I bought a 2.2 lb Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel last week ($40 MSRP) and though it's most people's favorite, neither my wife nor I care for the taste. We used only 4 of the 36 servings. If any of my GymBuddies in the US wants it and doesn't mind that it's opened, I'll ship it to you tracked for $15. If interested, send me a Private Message and I'll give you my PayPal info. I'm a verified PayPal user with 100% feedback and nearly 1000 ebay transactions, so you can trust me. Besides, you know where to find me! :)

RHC - Month Dos

I hear you bro. I've been doing the same thing - those day 2 and 3 are the killers for me b/c I despise doing my legs and didn't work my shoulders as much as I should. I was pretty shocked by how much the reps and sets increased. 7 sets on day three to start with?!? LOL I am getting used to it though. Can't wait to see what's in store for month three! :) I've been actaually keeping my own log and recording it while I am doing it and am looking back on the week prior and bumping it up by 10 - 15lbs from what I was lifting. In some cases it works ... others I push to failure... but it's getting better... Keep it up!

Re: RHC

Heh, well I'm in month 2 and--let me tell you--it's MUCH more intense! I've been able to increase a couple of my lifting weights, but not much as we're doing some very short reps, then some very loooong reps. It's been really good for my definition right now, but man is it killer. :P

hi! no not doing it yet. keep thinking about it!

no, i have been super lazy lately. I did a gym workout over the weekend, but did not log it into here. I found that my diet was sort of out of control, and even tho i was working out and running to burn at least 1200 cals every few days or so, i was still putting on weight. so i am focusing on getting my diet under control, and then will start back into my workouts with more energy. I was drinking too much.. Wine is my poison.. its great going down, but makes me lazy and sort of depressed the follow day. terrible for motivation, so i am giving it up. Taking this new diet plan very very seriously, so in a day or so, i will start back at the gym.. thanks so much for asking.. i really need the support. My husband and i work together , and there is a lot of stress in running a business with your spouse, so our main source of fun is dining out in manhattan, which usually means many glasses of wine and too much food.

Old measurements

Today in an old folder, I found some of my measurement stats from when I worked at my last employer (from three years ago until last year). I went ahead and entered them here just to see the changes. So, for better or worse, I now have weight, body fat and waist measurements going back as far as August '05 on my graph!

Thanks JD!

Yes, I have noticed that I can lift much more than before. Eating-wise, it was hard b/c I usually don't constantly eat. But that's the thing - you need to eat...and eat... and eat throughout the day. I have a meal about every two hours at the very least. It was rough in beginning eating all that food but I became used to it and so did my body. Stick with it and I know you will have successful results in no time. I'm here if you have any questions or need any support! Ironically, you were the one who lead me to this site - I totalled that workout on the go sheet (I detached it) and took it with me everywhere. Needless to say, it got really jacked to the point where I couldn't even read it. So I googled it looking for someone who may have had a copy online and viola! So I want to thank YOU for introducing me to this wonderful site. I was using http://mapmyrun.com before this but have since completely moved onto this site instead due to the ease of use this site has. It's effn' awesome! ^o^

Re: Walking

Ah; Just tracking activity then, that's cool. I've read a few articles about people using walking as a form of fat-burning, and they also included using a weighted vest, or walking on an incline, that's why I was asking.

Re: Walking

No, when I input that I've been walking, it's just a regular swift walk around the block. It's not as intensive as my other workouts. I just wanted to record it somehow.

Re: Ankle

Hey! Yeah, I "should" let the ankle heal; and I won't be doing any lateral movements (or kicking on the heavy bag) for a couple of weeks, but luckily it doesn't hurt when I'm doing squats, since I'm at week 9 of 9 for my workout plan!

Re: Measuring fat

Exactly! I was using a couple different devices (there's one I got at Target that you just hold in your hands and press a button), but it was giving me different answers than the scale, so I decided to only use the scale from now on so I have a steady and more accurate reading. Good stuff at the link, too. Thx.

Measuring body fat %

Great article here on the various methods. http://www.new-fitness.com/body_fat_analyzing.html The tanita scales use BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance). I've seen people have theirs measured using the calipers and then the BIA immediately afterwards and there is an error margin of about +/- .8 . Which is kind of a lot, but as many have said, as long as you're using the same thing over and over again and not flip flopping the methods of measurement, it should give you the measurement of change that you're looking for, even if it isn't 100% accurate. Most of us are just interested in making sure that we're cutting fat instead of muscle.

Created 3 months ago by sawolf01

Just search Amazon for Tanita Scale and you'll see a bunch. They're about $30-$60.

Re: Bench Press Goal

I didn't see any way of setting a date for the goal either, I was just curious if it was a 1 month/6 month/12 month type of goal. As to increasing 10 lbs in a month; If you're still relatively new to working out, you'll still be enjoying the "new to working out" gains in both strength and muscle. However, if you've been working out for a few years, increasing your bench by 10 lbs (unless using a specialized bench press program) probably wouldn't be possible. (Of course, I wish it was!) Again; Good luck with your goal, and I look forward to watching your progress!

Re: Mood Tracking

Hey Copey, in addition to mood tracking, I'm also tracking my overall "feeling" of health and my sleep. If Gyminee ever does overlays, it will be really interesting to lay all those on top of one another and look at the correlations.

Re: Questions, Goals

Good point--and I'm actually more interested in losing body fat than weight at this point. I'm not really obsessed with the weight thing, but wouldn't mind dropping some pounds (unless I gain the same in muscles). To monitor my bodyfat, I'm using a Tanita scale, the kind you stand on and it sends a pulse through your body. I'm not sure how perfect it is, but I like it because it's super-easy and I figure as long as I always use the same device, I should be getting telling results. What do you think?

Questions RE: Goals

JD- I see you've got some good goals set. The body weight goal may need some adjusting. The workout and the diet in the RHC this month are all about adding muscle. You will probably gain weight, rather than lose. If you BW goes up, but your BF doesn't, you're golden. What are you using to monitor your bodyfat? Are you using calipers, or measurements, both, or ??? Anyway, good luck & God bless. <><

Re: Bench Press Goal

Thanks! I didn't set a timeline (can we do that?) I'm just hoping to meet it within the next month or so during my Rock Hard Challenge. It's about a 10 lb increase over what I'm doing now. I'm confident that by next week I'll be half way there. It's a small goal...I'm sure I can do better than that over the long run...but for my first goal I thought I'd make it easy. Next time, maybe not so much. :P

First week of the Rock Hard Challenge FINISHED

Well, today marks the end of week 1 of the Rock Hard Challenge--week 1 of 12. It is bar none one of the hardest workouts I've ever done (and one of the few! LOL). But by the end of the week, I find myself in a groove with it. It's left me very sore some days, but I'm committed to seeing it through. While I don't see much change in my pictures, I have lost 1% body fat and two pounds.

Creatine, Fish Oil, Nitrean and ETS

Well, as we get more serious with the RHC, I can see some supplements are in order! I've been taking Nitrean by AtLargeNutrition.com and it's truly as wonderful as everyone says it is. Far better than regular whey protein, because it includes casein protein which works through the night, too. While placing my order, I grabbed some creatine and fish oil which I haven't used before. We'll see how that goes. I also grabbed their famous ETS, which is supposed to help ease the muscle pain after workouts. It gets great reviews, but it's a very simple formula. I'll post what I think. Wish I had some now as I'm in a lot of pain from the leg workout! Hard to even go up the stairs. :P

Bowflex again and again

I forgot to answer your post on my journal, then I got "lost" going back and forth but remembered I needed to answer on your journal. Boy oh boy, I hope they change the way we post to and respond to each other's journal. >Actually, last year's Weider Max model (the one I have) has the leg press, extension and curls. I don't know why they changed it for this year (probably for space).< Same with Bowflex, the one I like is the outdated model. Whether the Weider Max or Bowflex, that'll have to wait until I win the lotto. lol First I need a new computer.

Second Day of the RHC

Wow--legs today. In pain, lol. But not too bad. The hardest thing is controlling the diet. I don't know how on earth I'm going to eat double the protein that I'm getting (that's what I'm supposed to have). Working on that, but all else is good!

Created 3 months ago by JuryDuty

Bowflex

> I just wanted to say that I got aWeider Max this last year--it's VERY similar to the Bowflex, but only $300.< This is confusing. Do I respond to your post in my Journal, and you may not know it, or post to your journal?? The Weider Max looks good, but I guess I'm partial to the Bowflex (the cheapest Bowflex model). I'd want the seated leg curls, rows and leg press. But, I'm just dreaming right now. lol
